Hypnosis for Addiction and Alcoholism
Addiction and alcohol take control of our lives. Many people reading these lines have…
Can Hypnosis Help with Addictions?
Yes, because addictions are deeply unconscious behaviors. Our subconscious is so strongly conditioned to seek out this substance that our willpower is no longer sufficient to resist the craving. Every attempt leads to negative feelings, thoughts, or withdrawal symptoms.
How does hypnosis help to reduce alcohol and drug abuse?
“Don’t ask: Why the addiction, ask: Why the pain?” Gabor Maté
Drug and alcohol abuse are methods to drown out negative feelings. In hypnosis, we can return to the causes of emotional pain and heal them. This eliminates the need for numbing.
Enhancing Willpower and Self-Control with Hypnosis
The first step of therapy must be to better control consumption behavior. With hypnosis, we can provide affected individuals with the necessary resources to control the abuse to the extent that further therapy becomes possible.
Change of Perspective: Altered Perception of Drugs and Alcohol Through Hypnosis
After a hypnosis session in my practice, many people see drugs in a completely different light. They no longer understand why they were so attracted to these substances before and wish for nothing more than to spend their weekends in pleasant company, in a way that restores their mental strength instead of destroying it.
Your Hypnotherapist in Berlin and Online: Florian Günther
As a native Berliner who grew up in a broken home, alcohol and drugs are not strangers to me. I know the feeling of needing to numb the pain just to be able to function somewhat normally. As a teenager, I earned my respect by drinking more than others and I have tried most of the drugs that you can buy on the street at least once.
You have to hit rock bottom to understand that you can’t go on like this and that you need support. Believe me, I understand.
I had my problem under control for a few years when the topic of drugs and alcohol came back to me. Clients who had come to me with other addiction issues confided in me. Alcohol, drugs, and narcotics. What worked for cigarettes and sugar addiction also works for these substances. I am ready to talk about it with anyone in a free initial consultation. Even if I can’t help, I might be able to point you in the right direction.
Facing addiction requires courage. When you reach out to me to take back your life and achieve your dreams and goals, you have my respect.
Dependencies are a broad field. Below you will find the stages of addiction that serve as a guide to whether I can help you.
The Stages of Addiction
A full-blown addiction doesn’t develop overnight, even though it can sometimes happen very quickly.
The Trial Phase
- Trying a drug (or behavior) to find out its effects
- Treatment is generally not required at this stage.
The Abuse Phase
- the consumer is aware of the drug’s effect and it is consumed frequently, regularly, and/or excessively
- Harmful effects such as poorer performance in education or work, or health problems, are accepted.
- Hypnosis is most effective in this phase.
- It is quite possible that the loss of control can be reversed.
- Therefore, this is also the phase in which, after therapy, total abstinence is usually not necessary.

The Dependency Phase
- the consumer can no longer do without the drug (or behavior). We now speak of drug or alcohol dependence
- The entire daily routine is subordinated to drug use, alcohol addiction (or behavior).
- Profession, friends, family become secondary.
- Attempts to reduce or stop the drugs, alcohol (or behavior) lead to withdrawal symptoms and fail.
- There is a development of tolerance and physical and psychological disorders.
I generally cannot treat people who are in an acute addiction to certain drugs and alcohol. To leave the addiction behind, a qualified detoxification (withdrawal) is necessary. This is usually carried out in a hospital. You can find more information HERE.
After you have completed your detoxification, I am available to assist you as part of your aftercare and relapse prevention.
Treating Alcohol Addiction with Hypnosis
Alcohol addiction is a serious illness. To regain control over alcoholism, a network of therapists, providers, and the patient’s family/friends is needed.
This begins with the patient’s motivation needing to be high. Achieving this will already require several therapy sessions. Only when there is an understanding that there is no alternative to qualified detoxification in a clinic can treatment for alcohol addiction begin.
My work usually starts only after a successful detoxification. The first goal is for the recovering alcoholic to gain the mental strength never to reach for a glass of alcohol again. The second step is to uncover and heal the causes of the alcohol problem. Several hypnosis sessions are necessary for both steps.
Treating Alcohol Addiction with Hypnosis
It’s important to understand that alcohol addiction is a serious illness that requires medical assistance. In the following, I want to explain the process of treating alcohol addiction in more detail to help you manage this difficult time and achieve the best possible results.
1. Recognizing the Problem
The first step in treating alcohol addiction is to recognize and acknowledge the problem. This can be challenging, as alcoholism is often accompanied by shame, guilt, and denial. It’s important to be honest with yourself and recognize that alcohol has negative impacts on your health, relationships, and overall quality of life.
2. Professional Counseling and Diagnosis
After recognizing the problem, it is advisable to seek professional help. An experienced addiction counselor or doctor can assist you with the diagnosis and assess the severity of your alcohol dependency.
3. Detoxification and Withdrawal
In cases of severe alcohol dependency, detoxification in a medical facility may be necessary. The detox process helps to cleanse the body of alcohol and its harmful effects. Under medical supervision, withdrawal symptoms are monitored and medical measures are taken to alleviate them.
4. Therapy, Hypnosis, and Rehabilitation
The actual treatment of alcohol addiction consists of therapy and rehabilitation. There are various therapeutic approaches that can be applied depending on individual needs.
A common method is cognitive-behavioral therapy. Alternatively (or additionally), some may seek hypnotherapy. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is covered by health insurance, but unfortunately, hypnosis is not.
Group therapy (such as Alcoholics Anonymous) also plays an important role in recovering from alcoholism. Exchanging experiences with peers can help one feel understood and supported.
5. Aftercare and Long-Term Support
The treatment of alcohol addiction does not end with therapy. Long-term support and aftercare are crucial to ensure lasting success. It’s important to build and maintain a stable social network.
This can include family members, friends, self-help groups, and professional caregivers. The doors of the hypnosis practice are always open to those affected for short-term interventions and support.
